Occupied Wall Street
Posted by: Blaski
November 17, 2011 - 11:47 AM

More arrest are being made on Wall Street. Hauling off people that wont stand for the greed and corruption that takes place in our nations financial system. Advice to those who are protesting, get a main voice and face to be the spokes person for your cause. A central leader, otherwise, to quote Moe Shimp of The Three Stooges "You'll get no where fast". As for those ordering the arrest, listen to the people. There's major issues in our country when it comes to who controls our money. Rich are getting richer and the poor are becoming more poor day by day. Instead of worring about if these people have a "parade permit" worry about how this issue can be resolved.

9/11 Wine?
Posted by: Blaski
August 22, 2011 - 2:28 PM

These days, things on the internet doesnt really seem to suprise me or shock me, but this made me scratch my head a bit. 9/11 Memorial Wine! Lieb Cellars in Mattituck, New York had released 2 wines with a tag line that read, "using grapes grown 90 miles from the World Trade Center". One is a white chardonnay and the other is a red merlot. Is this acceptable? Im going to go ahead and say no. They seem to try and cover their tracks by saying they will make "generous dontations to the 9/11 Memorial"  Why do people see dollar signs when something as horrible as 9/11 happens? The fact that anyone would try to make money off of 9/11 is 100% messed up and total BS. Come on people, get your head out of your backside and realize that if you make any money off of 9/11 then ALL PROCEEDS need to go to the 9/11 Memorial. In the dictionary under the term Jackass it says see these people! Whats next? 16oz Twin Tower Beer Cans?

Taking Things To Far?
Posted by: Blaski
August 11, 2011 - 1:49 PM

http://forfeiturereform.com/2010/12/03/will-the-dea-shut-down-every-major-music-festival-in-the-country/

Read this article and you make your own decision on this. I think this maybe taking things way to far. The fact the music festivals around the U.S. could be brought to an end. Taking someones land without charging them with a crime is a crime in and of its self. Yes, drugs are bad, but your never going to be able to stop people from doing them. You want to put an end to the problem then bring in more security, not end the party once and for all. Thats just my thought. Feel free to make your own opinion.

Night Sky and a Dream...
Posted by: Kyle
July 19, 2011 - 8:57 PM

I caught a view of the Kennedy Space Center tonight on my way home from Dixie Crossroads (amazing food and service) and had my cab driver pull into an empty parking lot. It was an amazing sight, even from across the bay. The Vehicle Assembly Building is unmistakable, even in the dark. Beyond that was one of the launch pads, which resembled little more than a blur of hundreds of lights, but I still knew what it was. Not many people could probably understand the beauty of it from that distance as I can. The sight alone is AMAZING to me, but throw in the historical values and the hair on my neck and arms stood up. What I would give to take a trip to the heavens on a space shuttle. In a couple of days that dream will die forever. There is no launch about to take place, launch pads 39A and 39B stand silent, nor are there any astronauts to greet or see off tonight. The buildings alone as a back drop to the ocean with the night sky are enough to take my breath away. Maybe it’s the beer...  No, it’s more than that. It is a dream fading away before my eyes. Only in my dreams have I imagined such a beautiful trip. Only one woman has made me feel as sick as I do right now. “You know I’m still charging you,” the cab driver said to me through the open window. “Yeah dude.  It’s worth every penny,” I said. I could sit here all night and dream. Maybe I will…

God Speed Atlantis.

Dear God, bring them home safe.

Final Space Shuttle Landing!
Posted by: Kyle
July 19, 2011 - 5:44 PM

Hey Gang!

I made it to Cape Canaveral, Florida, safe and sound tonight!  The next couple of days will be a great adventure for me.  I will be spending Wednesday and Thursday at the Kennedy Space Center touring the complex, viewing the IMAX, checking out the launch facilities, and most important... viewing the final space shuttle landing!  I'm pumped up for Thursday morning when I will be taking an hour long flight in a WACO by-plane which was a WWII training aircraft.  I paid a little extra to do some acrobatics (parachute required!) and even getting a little stick time myself (aviation lingo for flying the plane!).  Tonight I'm off to Dixie Crossroads Seafood Restaurant to try out their "Famous Wild Ocean Shrimp", and maybe a few Budweisers!  Wish me luck!  I'll check back in with you soon!

God Speed Atlantis!

Cheers!

Kansas 2011 Hunting and Fishing Expo
Posted by: Don
April 4, 2011 - 10:47 AM

This past weekend the Flinthills Mall hosted the 2011 Hunting and Fishing Expo.

A great big thank you and a job well done go out to Jennifer and Tonya, co-event directors, as well as Jose- mall manager and Debby mall marketing manager. It appeared to me that this year's event was a huge success and that this show will continue to grow. When I arrived at the expo on Saturday morning the Flinthills Mall parking lot was packed. It was really great to see so many people come out and support the event.

KISS 103.1 and 97.7 The Dawg were proud to be associated with the event and look forward to next year being even bigger and better!

March 30, 2011 - 8:13 PM

Please join our stations at Mytown Media in helping out with disaster relief for those so badly effected by the recent disaster in Japan.

These charities, and many others, are providing care. If you can contribute to help fund their emergency efforts, please do.

Japan Society - Japan Earthquake Relief Fund: https://www.japansociety.org/japan_earthquake_relief_fund
Japan Society has created the Japan Earthquake Relief Fund to help victims recover from the devastating effects of the earthquake and tsunami. Japan Society is absorbing all administrative costs associated with the fund, which means that 100 percent of donations will go to organizations in Japan directly contributing to the relief and recovery effort.

American Red Cross - Japan Earthquake and Pacific Tsunami: https://american.redcross.org/site/Donation2?idb=0&5052.donation=form1&df_id=5052
Gifts to the American Red Cross Japan Earthquake and Pacific Tsunami fund will support emergency relief and recovery efforts, including deploying personnel, sending relief supplies and providing financial resources.

Please go to our website at www.kiss1031.net or www.977thedawg.com and click on the banner "Japan Relief" at the top of the page.

Did you know that the average American uses 13 gallons of water per day just to flush the toilet?

Did you know that you use 15 gallons of each water each time you cycle your dishwasher?*

And listen to this…for each load of laundry you do…you use about 55 gallons of water.*

These are some things, that as a water user, you probably weren’t aware of.

On the average…the typical Kansan uses about 81 gallons of water per day.**

(That’s about 567 gallons a week…6,804 gallons per month…or 29, 565 gallons a year.)

Mulitply that by the 2.8 million people living in Kansas…and that’s about 82.7 BILLION

Gallons a year**. That’s more gallons than Bill Gates has dollar bills.

As Kansans…we use a lot of water…CLEAN WATER. Some countries, don’t have that luxury.

But what if we told you, that you could help provide clean water to family in Rwanda for the rest of their lives, and all it would cost you is about the price of a bus ticket from Kansas City to Wichita?

Learn how you can help. More details are coming soon from Compassion International and: KISS 103.1.

Kansas City Chiefs
Posted by: Cody Hudson
September 20, 2010 - 10:29 PM

For those of you with young sons and/or daughters, I'd like to remind you that it is your duty as a mother and/or father to teach your children the most important lessons in life.  And it is never to early to teach the lesson of loyalty to the Kansas City Chiefs.  Help their dedication to blossom at a young age so by the time they enter grade school they'll be able to identify the children whose allegiances have strayed to a weaker participant of the AFC West.  The parents of those unlucky little angels are most assuredly the same type of people who cheered for Andre the Giant during Wrestlemania III while he was on the business end of the most famous Hulk Hogan body slam in history (by the way, Hulk wore Red and Gold that night).  As you provide your children with the vitamins and nutrients they need to grow big and strong do not forget to feed the fragile little impressionable minds with stories of Derrick Thomas sacks and Priest Holmes touchdowns on Sunday afternoons as a sea of red cheers with an intoxicating sense of admiration.  Some day your child could be one of those men we scream for on Sundays as they tackle and chase those foolish enough to provoke a Kansas City Chief on a gameday.

ps.  Be sure and teach them that just because John Elway  is in the NFL Hall of Fame and Christian Okoye is not doesn't mean that the Nigerian Nightmare is not a better man.

Punt, Pass, and Kick Preparation
Posted by: Cody Hudson
August 31, 2010 - 9:07 PM

As I'm sure you all know football season is upon us.  And everybody knows what that means...  It's almost Punt, Pass, and Kick time.  I soon plan to begin training for this illustrious competition.  In order to prepare properly I will need a volunteer who can catch, return, and measure my punts, my passes, and my kicks.  There is no receiving involved in this competition so the volunteer trainer will be required to run the ball back to me and place it in my hands after it has been punted, passed, or kicked.  Throwing the ball back to me will not be an option, regardless of how fast, high, or hard you can throw.  The returning of the ball is a vital part of this procedure and must be done efficiently.  I personally only have one ball, so if the volunteer could purchase a bag of game ready footballs they will be reimbursed just as soon as I get my Punt, Pass, and Kick petty cash in from my Grandma (she wants to see me wing a few tight spirals before she invests).  The volunteer will also need be required to wear eye black, gloves, and full NFL authentic Kansas City Chiefs Road uniform.  Those who are interested please email me at punt.pass.kick.2010champion@nobodycanstopme.com

as always Denver Bronco's fans need not apply

Terri Thompson

NTAF Midwest/West Kidney Transplant Fund
Emporia, KS

Terri Thompson was diagnosed with Polycystic Kidney Disease when she was 27 and has endured multiple health problems, along with other family members, including her mother, brother and two sisters who have also been diagnosed with this hereditary disease. Terri has been a registered nurse for nineteen years. During her career she has helped others in a variety of nursing roles, including management of 4 dialysis units for several years.

Terri was living what she refers to as a “normal life ”(even with kidney function of 24%), working full-time as a school nurse until April 2009. Then a kidney infection changed her life and placed her in end stage renal failure.  She took a medical leave, believing she would heal and be able to return to her nursing position. Unfortunately, her kidney function did not return, and she is now on the kidney transplant list. Due to her blood type, Terri could be on the list for 2-3 years or longer. Many have offered to be a donor to Terri.

Kelly Dooley (kidney donor) is a long time friend of Terri’s daughter, Christin Black. Kelly, of her own volition and without the knowledge of Terri or Christin, began researching what was required to be a living donor and filled out the necessary paperwork. It was only then that Kelly informed Terry of her decision to be her donor. Within a very short time, they found out that Kelly was a match! Kelly is recently married, works in a hospital, has a Masters in Speech Pathology, and is currently pursuing a Ph.D. Kelly is willing to make a sacrifice above and beyond to give the gift of life.

Even with insurance, there are many uninsured transplant expenses that must be paid for out-of-pocket: co-pays, deductibles, immunosuppressant drugs, and travel and relocation expenses. A fundraising campaign in Terri’s honor has been established with NTAF (formerly National Transplant Assistance Fund). NTAF is a non-profit organization that has been assisting the transplant community with fundraising for more than 26 years. All contributions are tax-deductible and are administered by NTAF exclusively for transplant-related expenses. When considering your donation, please think of Kelly’s generosity.

Don't know if anybody else caught the John Mayer concert at the Sprint Center last night, but it was truly amazing!  He must be the greatest, well rounded, guitarist of my generation.  I think today might be a little heavy on the John Mayer play list!

I'm sorry... I have truly tried to not say very much about the subject because I truly am a believer in good sportmanship, but isn't it a little funny that everyone picked KU to win it all???  I know I will eat my words again if KSU does anything less than win a National title (which I believe is entirely unlikely), however, in the mean time....  I'd just like to thank the Jayhawks again for all their hard work in the NCAA tourney this year!

Lil Wayne Still Free!
Posted by: Blaski
March 3, 2010 - 8:19 PM

Lil Wayne still remains free after a court house fire!! Wow talk about some dumb luck. When most people face prison time, they pray for a court house fire but for Lil wayne, it just happens. Of course its no secret that Lil Wayne is facing up to a year in prison for weapons possession. My question is, why do all these famous people keep getting in trouble for carrying guns. Or in general just being involved in stupid crimes. Your rich! Hire a body guard! Let them carry the guns. Keep yourself out of trouble. No need to act like a idiot.

American Flop

March 3, 2010 - 11:35 AM

Can anybody tell me what has happened to American Idol?  It was so good when it first started and offered deserving people a path to their dreams.  It's really too bad.  No doubt about it that Kelly Clarkson and Carrie Underwood are the greatest American Idol contestents  followed closely by Chris Daughtry.  And remember when Taylor Hicks won??  I know he's been out of the spot light since then, but come on....  That was someone exciting to see win because he was like 30.  I'm tired of 16 year olds talking about how they've been singing for 9 years....  Yeah I sang when I was 8 too, but it wasn't good.  Come talk to me after your voice matures!

Lady Madonna John

February 19, 2010 - 11:13 AM

Did anybody else catch the Grammys?  Very Scary Stuff!  I've heard that Lady Gaga is the next Madonna and I would have to say in terms of weirdness she is well on her way.  But the thing that hit me the hardest was probably Elton John coming out on stage with the black ash all over his face!  I was watching it with a couple of musician friends and we laughed for probably a half hour.  That was the funniest stuff I've seen in a while.  We gotz to get that video up on this website!

State of Speech Writing

January 28, 2010 - 11:51 AM

While the current State of the Union may be in bad shape in some areas, I would have to say the State of Speech Writing is in great shape!  Best thing from the speech???!!!  I think we might actually be ending a war that has gone on longer than either World War.  Bring Em' Home Prez!

Late Night Debacle!!!
Posted by: Kyle
January 25, 2010 - 11:06 AM

I'm not sure if anybody out there is happy about the late night mix up going on at NBC but I am very sad to see Coco go.  What will I do without his genius monologue and happy string dance?!  I'll tell you one thing....  The old is... well... OLD!  And this is the second time Leno has been fired.  Jay should have just stepped aside respectfully and made way for the future.  Hmm.... I think there is a lesson for Emporia in all of this!!!!
